Award-Winning Care and Service

The Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery (CMIS) recently received recognition from SPH Analytics with a National APEX Quality Award for outstanding patient care.
CMIS, located at 9200 Calumet Avenue in Munster, IN, is a multispecialty outpatient surgery center with a focus on orthopedics, spine, ENT, pediatrics, podiatry, and pain management procedures. Their mission is to deliver excellent surgical care in a convenient, comfortable, outpatient environment. The entire team at CMIS is dedicated to serving patients in a professional, compassionate manner, meeting their unique needs.
The APEX Award
The APEX Quality Award distinguishes CMIS as one of the highest performing healthcare entities in their peer grouping. Winners are determined solely on patient satisfaction and only 109 healthcare facilities nationwide were selected as winners of the award.
“We are very proud of this award,” said Rebecca Rainey, OR Nurse Lead. “The key performance indicators tied closely to clinical, operational, and interpersonal measures given by our patients when they fill out satisfaction surveys. This tells us that our patients are very happy with the quality of care that they receive here at the Center.”
CMIS Patient Success
CMIS has about 130 patients every month, according to Lisa Davis, the Administrator. “We staff around 20 employees and our goal is for every patient to get personal one-on-one treatment during their stay. The award is an indicator that our employees are consistently striving to provide the highest standard of patient care, including going above and beyond for our patients.”
Michelle Corner, The Director of Nursing and Infection Control Specialist, pointed out that CMIS has incurred zero post-op infections since opening four years ago. “That’s another strong indicator of how we approach patient care.”
Every day more procedures are being safely completed in Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASC) and nationwide more surgery centers
are opening and thriving with positive outcomes, according to Rainey. “The procedures performed here are outpatient in nature,” she said. “People recover and heal much better and faster if they are allowed to do so in the comfort of their own home.”
“The goal is to reduce recovery time,” Corner said. “We help our patients manage pain through a variety of measures that allow them to go home within hours of having surgery and recover in the comfort of their own home. They can go home and rest. The feedback we receive from patients tells us they love the idea of being at home instead of in a hospital where they have many distractions.”
Happy Patients
Many patients receive surveys after healthcare procedures, and not all of them take the time to fill those surveys out. Those who do usually share experiences on one end of the satisfaction spectrum or the other. At CMIS, incoming patients have the comfort of knowing that the APEX Quality Award means they are getting the best care possible in a clean and safe environment. They also have the comfort of knowing that they’ll be heading home just a few short hours after their procedure with the latest pain control technology available.
Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery serves the Greater Chicago Metro and Northern Indiana area with the focus on orthopedics, spine health, podiatry, joint replacement, sports medicine, stem cell treatment, hand surgery, pediatrics, ENT and pain management procedures. CMI Surgery is dedicated to providing surgical care for patients and their families in a convenient and comfortable outpatient environment. To learn more, contact us today!
