Dr. Robert Coats utilizes non-operative, as well as, minimally invasive arthroscopic and endoscopic procedures to restore function and relieve pain in the most efficient manner available. His goal is to inform his patients, so they can make the best possible decisions for treatment options and become active participants in their treatment plans. His office uses advanced diagnostic tools, including fluoroscopic (real-time, live x-ray) and ultrasound imaging for diagnosis and treatment of tendon and nerve disorders.

Dr. Coats specializes in treating children and adults with traumatic, congenital, and degenerative conditions affecting the hands, wrists, elbows, and shoulders. He also treats lower extremity traumatic conditions such as fractures and tendon ruptures. Dr. Coats is an expert in the treatment of Dupuytren’s Contracture with collagenase injections. Dr. Coats is a leader in the endoscopic treatment of carpal and cubital tunnel syndromes, the arthroscopic treatment of rotator cuff and labral tears and upper extremity joint replacement surgery. He has spoken at national meetings and has educated Primary Care Physicians, Hand Fellows, and other Hand Surgeons locally, nationally and internationally.

Dr. Coats recognizes the financial, legal, social and psychological considerations necessary to successfully treat his patients. He serves as a consultant for medical, legal and insurance utilization review.
